Cryptic Wonders
I seem to think I had shared this before but apparently I hadn't. This is one of those slightly nonsensical pieces that will only make sense if you have found something to relate to it on some level. Poetry can be strange that way. Actually, art is just strange that way. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it's simply confusing. But as long as it contains something deeply essential from the one who created it, in my opinion, that is true art. Anything else is just empty. Empty words. Soulless art. The piece of work doesn't even have to be the most astoundingly complex, different, or cleverly composed work you've ever done or the most widely praised across the board in order to be appreciated. If I can see something of you, something that is truly you in that piece of work, that is what I find to be truly beautiful and inspiring. I'll find much more adoration in a seemingly pointless canvas of abstract art that has bits and pieces of the heart that made it to a cunningly clever story with no essence from the author.

DeleteBeautiful poem. Art really can be strange, you may not completely understand it, but it may stir something up in you...it means something to you. That is how I feel after reading your poem :)
ReplyDeleteMainly my poems are free verse, because when I try getting the words to rhyme, I feel it becomes "empty words" and "soulless art". Art to me is being able to express yourself without any rules. That is why I'm not really into poems that require an amount of syllables, or words, or rhymes. I like to be able to just sit down and pour out my thoughts and feelings however I want.
Well this was one long comment! Not everyone understands what I mean when I talk about writing poems, but I just thought I'd share :)
I love long comments like this. :) I know exactly what you mean about free verse. Having never been academically trained in poetry, I find my self verging on incapable of/not caring at all about writing in other styles of poetry. I'm glad this meant something to you.
Deletethis - this is beautiful. to me, it seems to speak of a kind of unity of people who have been through the same things but no one talks about it.... if that makes any sense...? or does it have to? :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love art that is completely open to each individual mind and soul. I love that it is a sort of language - those with little or no imagination wonder why we love it so much, but we know. :)
It does make sense, but no it doesn't have to. Adds to the allure, I believe.

A lovely poem! My perception in art has been ever changing, especially as I grew and developed. Personally, sometimes feel there's a fine line between art and nothingness, as to genius and insanity.

DeleteI read your poem several times and each time it made me feel the same way....like looking into the unknown and knowing there's something to smile about. I don't write poetry anymore, I did when I was a teenager but mine were always dark and demented instead of thought provoking like I wanted then to be, like this one was.

ReplyDeleteI don't know, but I've had that issue as well. I found a loophole though - after trying to follow someone and it says it can't - look for the "more options" link in the right hand bottom corner, then you'll see another button for "follow/stop following this blog".
