A Love Poem - To Win You

Fact: I've been called the most unromantic person a person has ever met. By more than one person. I think it's hysterical.

Because my personality apparently leads people to such conclusions, I once asked a few randoms if they thought I'd be capable of writing a convincing love poem. Some said yes, some said no, most said maybe. I asked myself the same question and after the laughter died down, I figured I'd give it a go.

The character I embraced for this had an interesting voice. Rather old fashioned. Almost sonnet-type. A little emo-ish. The project itself was already so far removed from what I normally write I decided to just go with it, and I still don't know what to make of this. Love poems make me cringe. I've been staring and poking at this for a few weeks and I don't think I can do anymore with it. So have at it.

The character says he's not skilled in ink nor speech, but he did say I love you in three different languages. French, Greek, English (his title is rather lacking though). I'll leave you with this link to learn more about the meaning behind the Greek phrase. Romantic, no?

Now excuse me while I go eat soap and sit and stare with my mixed thoughts.

So, verdict? Convincing or not at all? Pointers?

  1. Very deep and thoughtful Pixie... I know how you feel about releasing poetry... I have wrote a few and let me tell you, they are the hardest ones for me to hit publish, it is because true poetry is what you really feel inside.. I would say you could be considered a romantic... :) Have a good weekend :)

    1. Thanks Launna! I totally know how that is. Though honestly I'm more of a fiction story writer so sometimes my poetry takes on a character voice rather than my own, but I like to keep the audience guessing on where one voice starts and the other ends, if ever at all. Hope you have a good weekend as well!

  5. Thanks for your comment on my blog, just wow. It was stated so beautifully, I really hadn't looked at trials and such as being a source rich with creativity. It's so true!
Anyways, I also really love the poem! It isn't bad at all, I don't think many said 'romantics' could have even aspired to that. Way to branch out a little, it isn't easy at all!

  6. Lovely poem! Um...how can you not be considered a romantic, because your poem says otherwise! ;)
You are a very talented poet!

  8. This is an amazing poem! Beautiful! And I love that it's not loaded with clichés but very simple yet full of emotions. I think that we're all romantics in our hearts - we all want to love and be loved in return. Some show it more some less and everyone of us in our unique way. Why would somebody else be allowed to judge if we're romantic or not and what romanticism means for us. I do believe that our romanticsm pours out more when we're deeply in love than when we're not. This poem definitely is very romantic and truly wonderful.

    1. So sweet Beate, thank you! I love what you said about us all being romantics in one way or another. I have to say, I like that thought.

  9. it reminds me of byron's 'maid of athens, ere we part' -- probably due to his "zoe mou, sas agapo". :)
